The Test Program of the Mayor of Moscow, which is valid starting 1996, is intended for the express estimate of the state of physical fit­ness of school children who are 6-17 years old (from the first to the eleventh grades). One estimates such indices as general endurance, flexibility, quickness, agility, speed, dynam­ic and static force, speed and force endurance.

The capital's program for testing the physical fitness of school children who are 6-17 years old - i.e. the "Test Program of the Mayor of Moscow" — has been worked out by the specialists of the Moscow Committee of Education, of the Moscow City Federation of Sports Organizations jointly with the All-Russian Research Institute of Physical Training and it constitutes a part of the united capital's system of physical training of children and pupils. The program was approved by the Government of Moscow.

The necessity of the test diagnostic of the physical-­health of school children is obvious since one has obtained negative data on the state of health and physical fitness of pupils. Thus, 15% of boys could not pull themselves up more than once, 5% of those being tested could not pull themselves up at all while 55% of girls, who were aged between 6 and 17 years, could not execute the age and strength norm "hang" on the horizontal bar. The number of children having extra weight of their bodies increases from year to year. According to experts, about 20% of children suffer from obesity and, moreover, this figure tends to growth. The most important indices that reflect the functional state of the heart and lungs have gone down by 10%.

Olympic Movement in Russia.

 

First national sports federations started to emerge in Russia soon after the abolition of serfdom and with the beginning of the quick industrial development. And though at that time sport did not play any significant role in social life, there appeared to be some people even then realizing its importance in the life of society.

One of them was General Alexey Butovsky. He was a co-founder of the International Olympic Committee.

Russia did not participate in the first three of the Modern Games. But in 1908 a group of six athletes from Russia went to London. One of them, Nikolay Panin-Kolomenkin, a figure-skater, became the first Olympic Champion in Russian sport history, having demonstrated the best result in special figures.

As for the Russian Olympic Committee, it was founded in March, 1911 and immediately called sport organization of Russia to take an active part in preparation for the Games of V Olympiad in Stockholm. Emperor Nicholas II was the patron of the Russian Olympic team at the 1912 Games. The Russian delegation was one of the most representative in Stockholm – 170 athletes and 50 officials.

After October 1917 Russia and then the USSR found itself outside the Olympic movement because of political reasons. It was only in 1952 when we re-joined the Olympic family and took part in the Games of the XV Olympiad in Helsinki.

Then, till the end of 1988 the athletes of this country performed under the USSR flag at all winter and summer Olympic Games. 473 times our athletes were awarded with gold medals, 376 times with silver and 35 times with bronze. 815 athletes of the former USSR have a high title of Olympic champion.

The Moscow Olympiad of 1980 is one of the brilliant pages in the history of the national Olympic movement. The whole country had been preparing for this sport feast for six years.

And even in spite of the boycott on the part of the USA and some other states, the Games of the XXII Olympiad became an important stage in the development of the international Olympic movement. Its participants still recall excellent organization of competitions and boundless hospitality of Muscovites.

Olympic Games of 2008 in Beijing and of 2010 in Vancouver meant new important steps in the development of the national sport. Russia is doing its best to make the Winter Olympics in Sochi 2014 a memorable occasion.
