WISH - strcutures.

Various forms of expressing imaginary, unreal or improbable situations:

 

Suppose/ Supposing + Past Simple (Present/ future) Suppose you were offered to study abroad, What would you do? Предположим, вам предложили поехать учиться за границу – что бы вы сделали?
Suppose/ Supposing + Past Perfect/ Past Perfect Continuous (Past) Suppose he had been telling the truth, what would he have said? Предположим, он тогда говорил правду – чтобы он сказал?
I’d rather/ sooner somebody + Past Simple (Present) I’d rather you went now. Я бы предпочла, чтоб вы сейчас удалились.
I’d rather/ sooner somebody+ Past Perfect… (Past) I’d rather you hadn’t lied to me. Я бы предпочла, чтоб вы тогда сказали мне правду.
I’d rather + Bare Infinitive (Present) I’d rather go to the shops tomorrow. Я бы предпочла пойти по магазинам завтра.
I’d rather + Perfect Infinitive (Past) I’d rather not have left yesterday. Будь моя воля, я бы вчера не уехала.
As if/ as though+ Past Simple (Present) He isn’t French but he speaks French as if he were from France. Он – не француз, но по-французски говорит как носитель языка.
As if/ as though + Past Perfect (Past) He hadn’t been awarded the first prize but he behaved as if he had been awarded it. Не он завоевал первый приз, но вел он себя так, словно первый приз достался именно ему.
It’s (about/ high) time+ Past Simple (Present) It’s time you wentto bed. Пора бы тебе идти спать.
Had better (Present) = should + Bare Infinitive You had better (You should) stop smoking   Тебе следует бросить курить.
It would have been better (Past) = should have + Past Perfect It would have been better if you had (You should have) told her the truth.   Было бы лучше, если бы ты сказал ей правду.
