Cadets’ Life at the Academy

1. The first weeks at the military Academy are a busy time for cadets. Cadets have medical examinations and begin their Basic Cadet Training (BCT). During this period cadets obtain the basic military skills essential for their future career. To achieve high standards, cadets must quickly learn how to organize their time, polish boots and shoes, make beds and clean rooms.

2. Life at the military Academy is very complex but interesting. Cadets are perhaps the busiest students in the country. Classes and study, physical education, military duties, and recreation fill many hours of the day. The daily routine begins early. Cadets wake up at 06:00, have their morning inspection at 06:05, do their physical training exercises and have breakfast in the mess. Before breakfast cadets participate in activities such as cleaning duties, flag raising duties, etc. Academic and military lessons begin at 07:35 and are over at 16:00. Cadets usually have several 90-minute lessons every day with intervals for break. The lights out signal is sounded at 24:00.

3. The Academy offers the academic program to develop professional and personal skills necessary to meet the unique challenges of a future career. The curriculum is the foundation of the academic program. It provides a solid base in basic sciences, humanities, social sciences, and etc. The curriculum also includes special subjects, such as: Criminal Law, Administrative Law, State and Law Theory, etc. All cadets complete over 30 courses, along with physical education and military development program. At the Academy cadets must develop additional professional skills: to drive a car, to apply different kinds of weapons, etc.

4. The transition from civilian to a military life is challenging. Cadets must learn military standards to live by these standards every day. They learn how to wear various cadet uniforms properly. Cadets practice drill and learn how to prepare for inspections.

5. Cadets live in barracks. Cadets’ barracks are modern and comfortable. The cadets’ barracks are both recreational rooms and study rooms. In addition to cadet accommodation, there is a common recreation area with pay telephone, refrigerator, microwave oven, television, stereo. Officers regularly inspect cadets’ accommodation.

6. Cadets are busy, but there is still time for sports, fun and relaxation. The expression that "every cadet is an athlete" is quite accurate. The Academy offers a unique sport program with 24 sports. The Sports Center contains a 25-metre swimming pool, a basketball court, a weight training room, and a gymnasium. Both officer staff and cadets may train in the Sports Center. There are numerous competitive club teams such as tennis, football, sailing, wrestling, etc.

7. All cadets receive two periods of winter and summer leaves. Winter leave lasts normally two weeks. Summer leave is about 4 weeks. For these periods cadets may travel at their own expense beyond the local area.

8. All cadets dine together in the mess. The mess hall is located near the barracks. Meals are planned to meet the needs of busy daily schedule. The food is of high quality and is served in a family style.
