Cherkasy Academy of Fire SafetyAcademy of Fire Safety named after Chornobyl Heroes is one of the leading special educational establishments in Ukraine. It trains specialists for the Ministry of Emergencies of Ukraine. The history of the Academy begins in 1973 when Fire Technical School was founded. In June 1997 on the basis of the Fire Technical School the Institute of Fire Safety named after Chornobyl Heroes was created. On the 30th of August 2007 the Institute was reorganized into the Academy of Fire Safety. There are five faculties at our Academy such as fire safety and labour protection, operational activity, prevention and prediction, management and faculty of correspondence studies. Modern educational rooms, special laboratories with up-to-date equipment, computer classes, lecture rooms, a library, comfortable reading halls, gymnasiums and a cultural centre are at our cadets’ disposal. There is a fire rescue station. It provides practical training of cadets. They learn to use firefighting and rescue technologies and special equipment. Cadets get skills in extinguishing fires and in liquidation of consequences of emergency situations. Every year cadets have practice in fire departments and regional administrations. Teaching staff of our Academy carries out scientific and research activity in different fields of science (галузях науки). Doctors and candidates of science involve cadets into scientific and research work. They take an active part in numerous International, Ukrainian and regional conferences and seminars. Our Academy has close relationships with fire rescue services and fire educational establishments in our country and abroad. Academy pays much attention to the organization of leisure and sport activity. Our cadets participate in International and Ukrainian competitions in such kinds of sport as fire-applied sport, shooting, football, volleyball, basketball, and wrestling. They win gold, silver, and bronze medals. Our sportsmen train on the basis of the recently built sport complex. Every year more than 500 school-leavers enter the Academy. Our educational establishment has glorious past and is rich in traditions. There is a museum of history of our Academy. We are proud of our graduates – Heroes of the USSR, lieutenants of internal service, Volodymyr Pravyk and Viktor Kibenok. The monument to those who participated in the liquidation of Chornobyl catastrophe commemorates the memory of their heroic deeds (вчинків).
