B. While watching.

Task II. State whether the following sentences are true or false. Make the false expressions sound true:

1. Being a manager is a very boring job.

2. A lot of people have the impression that managers work in a very systematic, highly organized world.

3. Interruptions, exceptions, delays, shortages… These are the realities that make the manager’s work day stimulating and unnerving, rewarding and frustrating.

4. The most exciting aspect of the job is its constant and structured nature.

Task V. Translate the sentences into Russian:

1. Many organizations offer in-house programs, which can help managers to improve themselves. They include company sponsored seminars, workshops and coaching techniques.

2. Anyone who does decide to make management a career should then formulate a plan of action and a timetable for developing those managerial skills necessary for establishing a successful career.

3. In order to make the right decision, an aspiring manager must compare his or her skills, interests, attitudes, traits with those needed in the manager’s world.

4. We know that being a manager requires a wide range of skills – the skills which change somewhat over time, and which need to be upgraded constantly.

5. Control of knowing what is happening and whether or not it has happened and what the results are is one of the key areas as you move up the managerial ladder.

6. Managers must be able to prioritize, to juggle effectively the flood of conflicting demands, and this requires the ability to work quickly, to cope with pressure and to deal with many different things at once.

7. We have to motivate people to do the job sometimes through just talking to them, other times through discipline, but the people, the human relations skills are the most important issues you develop as a manager.

There are a lot of cases of management failure where the individual worked extremely hard, was extremely intelligent, but yet, failed to recognize that his efforts were a reflection of his people’s efforts and therefore, he didn’t spend an adequate amount of time on communication with his employees.
