Results of work (screenshots with comments)In CMD program on Windows ipconfig utility allows getting information about current network settings, such as IP address, wildcard mask, address of default gateway and the like: Having set IP address on the computer I have tried to ping its default gateway on the router, in order to check correctness of network settings on the computer. Default gateway is the IP address of a port on a router, to which all the information sent to other networks will be delivered:
PuTTY utility was used for interacting with Cisco IOS installed on a router. After I have assigned IP address to the ports of the router, I issued a command to check current state of interfaces of the router. As shown in the picture below this command displays IP addresses of a port, its state and the state of protocol: Using ip route command enables us to receive information about routes on the device. Networks, which are directly connected to the router, are marked with “C”, information about routes which was obtained dynamically through the operating of RIP protocol is marked with “R” respectively: Two pictures below display the output generated by show running-config command. It includes all information about current configuration of the router:
Below in the picture is the output of the ping command from CMD on Windows. This times it was aimed to check availability of another network. As it can be seen having set correct configuration of a router that network became accessible, which means dynamic routing protocol, RIPv2, works correctly: Another command which gives more detailed information was issued as well. The difference of tracert command from ping is that it gives us the IP addresses of all hops, on the way to remote network:
