MEDICAL SCHOOLS IN THE UKRAINE
Citizens of the Ukraine have the right to education. This right is ensured by free provision of all forms of education, by the institution of universal, compulsory secondary education and broad development of vocational, specialized secondary and higher education. There are special well-equipped laboratories for practical work in medical schools and the student have practice there before they go to work in hospitals and clinics where they learn how to take care of patients. They study theory in the classrooms of their medical schools.
After finishing the theoretical course and practical work the student must take the state examinations. Students of medical schools receive a complete secondary education and the speciality either of a trained hospital nurse or a laboratory assistant or a pharmaceutist or a medical assistant or a dental mechanic. Every medical school has a library where the students can get all the text-books. Some students take an active part in scientific circles. Many students of medical schools go in for sports. They are members of different sport societies and take part in sporting contests.

Ukraine is among the most popular destination in the world for international medical students from around the world seeking Medical Education. As a response to international medical student demand, most of Universities of medicine have introduced English programmes of medical studies (medicine, dentistry, pharmacy etc.). Ukrainian universities have been extremely popular within students from Asia (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, etc.), Africa (Nigeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Congo, Guinea, etc.) and Middle East (Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Kuwait, Yemen, Iraq etc.) since years. Most of medical universities in Ukraine are internationally recognised and provide good quality medical education. Degrees of most Ukrainian universities are recognised in almost all Asian and African countries and by WHO (World Health Organisation). Nevertheless, Ukrainian medical degrees are not automatically recognised in all EU/EEA countries. After completing their medical study programmes, postgraduate students have an opportunity to continue their clinical specialization (residency) and research projects during 3-6 years of postgraduate training and obtain the Medical, Dental or Pharmaceutical specialties or Ph.D. degree, under the guidance of experienced professors. Most of universities of medicine in Ukraine have English, Ukrainian and Russian programmes. International students wishing to study in Ukraininan or Russian must first undergo one year preparatory course of Russian. Most of International students are attracted by English medical programs (General Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy etc.). They are more 20 medical universities in Ukraine.
MY WORKING DAY
I leave home at 8.15. My medical school is not far from my house and it usually takes me 10 minutes to get there. My classes begin at 8.30 a.m. and finish at 4.10 p.m. At 11.20 I usually have a bite at our medical school canteen. When I’m back home, my parents are still at work. That’s why I have to cook my dinner myself or just to take it from the fridge and warm it up. After hard work at school and a hearty dinner I feel like having a rest. So, after dinner I never do any serious work. I often take a nap, read a book, listen to the music, watch TV. Then it’s high time for me to get down to my home assignments. It takes me about 3 or 4 hours to do my homework properly. Besides I have additional private lessons in English. Twice a week I go to the swimming pool. It helps me to keep myself fit and feel cheerful and active. If I have two or three hours at my disposal before going to sleep I try to do something useful: I tidy up my room, or help Mummy to cook supper. When the supper is ready we gather in the dining-room and while having a meal we share the day news and plan our next day. After supper I help Mummy to clear the table and to do the washing up or watch TV till 11 o’clock. Then I have a bath and go to bed to get up early next morning to begin everything anew. Our country needs many nurses, laboratory assistants, pharmaceutists, medical assistants and dental mechanics. There are many medical schools in our country. Students with 11 classes study for 2 – 3 years at a medical school and with 9 classes study for 3 – 4 years. The teaching staff of every medical school consists of experienced teachers, doctors and pharmaceutists.
For practical studies every group is divided into 3 parts (brigades). The main form of practical studies is independent work of the students under the direction of a teacher-doctor. The students have special training practice at different clinics, hospitals.
In our life we have week-ends and holidays; it’s certainly more pleasant to speak about a holiday than about workday routine, but everyday routine makes up an essential part of our life.
At 7.30 the alarm-clock wakes me up and my working day begins. Actually I’m not fond of getting up early, but I’m already used to it. I do my bed and go to the bathroom. There I brush my teeth and if I’m not short of time I take a shower. At 8 o’clock I’m ready to have breakfast. Breakfast as doctors say, must be the most substantial meal of the day. But I have neither time nor inclination to cook it, so I just have a cup of coffee and a couple of sandwiches.
