3) British Prime Minister Tony Blair is still hard at work debating world trade and climate change at the World Economic Forum in Davos this week. Within the next six months – some day in June – the Blair era will come to an end. His supporters are keen to point out the country’s unbroken economic growth; low inflation and unemployment; the minimum wage; more money for public services; and more open and tolerant society.

4) Iraq’s prime minister told parliament Thursday that the coming U.S.-Iraqi security sweep in the capital would not be the last battle against militants, who he said would not be safe anywhere in the country. Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki did not reveal the details of the plan, which he has dubbed “Operation Imposing Law”, or say when it would begin.

7) This week’s The World Uncovered tells the story of Mahmoud, a 12-year-old boy who supports his family by selling tea in Gaza’s biggest hospital. He struggles to make a living on the wards and has to avoid the shoot-outs that occur inside the hospital itself. Filmed before and during the recent Israeli re-occupation of the Gaza Strip, this observational documentary uses Mahmoud’s experiences, as well as remarkable access inside the Hamas prime minister’s office, to show the reality of life under the new Hamas government.
