An offshore bank is a bank located outside the country of residence of the depositor, usually in a low tax jurisdiction that provides financial and legal advantages. These advantages usually include bank secrecy, low or no taxes, easy access to deposits, protection against local political or financial instability.
Some offshore centres combine loose anti-money laundering procedures with strict bank secrecy rules. Criminals can easily maintain and transfer funds from banks in these centres because details of client activities are generally denied to third parties, including most law enforcement agencies.
The financial centres that host offshore banks can be very large and help facilitate many illegal cross-border transactions.

There are at least three good reasons to move some of your assets to a good offshore banking center: to protect, to preserve, and to increase.
Assets held domestically are subject to political and social factors that you cannot control. Your home government may suddenly increase taxes. Local courts may cause problems. Our unstable political world creates reasons for transferring assets offshore.
The offshore environment, on the other hand, provides freedom from excessive taxation and freedom from red tape. Moving your assets to an offshore bank will allow them to benefit from the offshore tax advantages and grow faster than back home.
