Hello! And welcome to the HumanConcepts video series. In this video we will show you how HumanConcepts Organizational Planning Suite allows you to easily visualize matrix reporting relationships. In today's global economy, the structure of many organizations has become increasingly complex. People are frequently given multiple, cross-functional roles and responsibilities, and it's often difficult to represent matrix management in an org chart. In this example, Adele Miller holds the position of HR Business Partner. Adele’s primary manager is Patricia Parker, the VP of Human Resources. One of Adele’s many roles is to provide HR services to both the Sales and Operations departments in her company. In this role Adele has a secondary reporting relationship to each of the department heads – George Davis, the VP of Sales and Glen Finley, the VP of operations. Clicking on George Davis takes us to the Sales work chart. Notice that Adele is also included in George’s chart. This allows George to easily communicate the structure of his organization to new team members. George can also change the view so that Adele’s box is highlighted to indicate her dotted line relationship. Notice that Adele’s box is excluded from headcount calculations since she is not included in George’s cost centre. For example, the span of Control field indicates that George has three direct reports instead of four. Adele can also be excluded from any salary or budgetary role-up calculations within George’s organization. George can simplify the chart so that Adele’s other managers are no longer displayed in her box. In this mode the arrow button in the corner of the box allows you to quickly view and navigate matrix manages. The box border makes it easier to distinguish between indirect and direct reporting relationships. Indirect reports can also be included in charts that are printed or published in PDF and PowerPoint. As you can see it is easy to use Human Concepts Organizational Planning Suite to visualize matrix reporting relationships.
