Mass Media in our Region
The Volyn journalists contribute greatly to the democratic processes of development. There were 17 newspapers at the beginning of 1990. Nowadays there are 64 periodicals in our region. The Volyn Region Council is a founder of 19 editions, the Region State administrations issues 3 editions. They are newspapers "Volyn", "Dosvitnia Zoria", "Viche". The Lutsk City Council has its publishing organ - newspaper "The Lutsk Castle". The Regional Department of education together with the Recification Institute issue the magazine " Pedagogical Research ". "The Centre of Mercy and Health" and the Regional Red Cross issue the newspaper " Our Health". Periodicals founded by entrepreneur structures, political organizations, private persons make the colourful palette of the issues richer. Now 4 religious editions are published, the religious printing house "Christian Life" is functioning. Such local editions as " Volyn", "Viche", "Volyn-express ", information bulletin "Business Analysis " and such national periodicals as " Holos of Ukraine " and " Uriadovy Courier" enjoy the largest popularity among the Volynians. Publishing books is increasing in the region. Suffice it to say, that the Volyn State publishing house "Nadstyr'ia" for the past 5 years have put out more than 150 titles of single circulation books of 1 million copies. These are works of local authors, teaching manuals, monographs, reference books, children's literature. The electronic mass-media are rather active as well. Since 1991 the Volyn television has begun its transmissions and today its volume of week broadcasting is 10 hours. Besides this, the private TV company " Avers " works. In 1940 in the Volyn Region radio which broadcasts in an ultra short wave range and radio retranslating network were put into action. Since 1995, the radiostation " Lutsk" has worked in the air. The new modern means of mass-media, such as cable and satellite television, the Internet are getting more popular among the people of Volyn. Exercise 2. Answer the questions: 1.
