Self-evaluation
The first skill I mentioned was improved is a communicational skill. I mentioned that in the beginning of my work I was a bit shy, becoming red in uncomfortable situations and facing questions I could not answer. After some time I saw the change: nice answers were coming to my mind even when I do not know the real answer, all the mistakes were solved with humor and things became just simple. I met hundreds of people and for each of them tried to do my best — this made me far more open-minded and easy going.
Non-verbal communication is now one more thing that is far more clear than previously, because customers do not always express in words and I always have to read the text between the lines, like what they think and what they want. Now I can see better what a person thinks or wants without any words told.
What is more, I gained more attentiveness, patience and flexibility. The theoretical part of the occupation made me more logical and attentiveness, because losing attention always brings lots of serious problems when you are a waiter. There was never a single problem — when there is one, you start concentrating on it, then forget about something else and it works as a snowball going downhill. So, never losing attention was our anthem and it still is my by now.
Becoming more persuasive is one more thing. I think it doesn’t need a disclose, it is obvious that waiters have to persuade customers somehow to buy this or that, to ask order more and so on.
