OUR COLLEGE

 

I am a student of Syktyvkar Trade Economic College. Our college is one of the oldest educational establishments of the region. It was founded in 1960. Today the college has become one of the main educational centres of the Komi Republic. Its graduates are considered to be highly-trained specialists in the region.

Nowadays the college has about 650 students and 8 departments “Law”, “Economy and accounting”, “Management”, “Finances”, “Commerce”, “Commodity research”, “Services in public catering”, “Public catering products technology”. There is aiso an extra-mural department for all professions.

There are a lot of lecture rooms, studies and laboratories, computer classrooms, a library and an assembly-hall, a gym and a canteen.

My name is Olga. I am a full-time first year student Our studies begin at 9 o’clock. Usually we have 3 lectures a day. We have a dinner break at 12 o’clock. We have a good canteen and during our dinner break we take our meals there. Our library is on the first floor. It contains a lot of textbooks and fiction. There is a large reading-room in our college and I often do my homework there.

The academic year begins on the first of September and ends in June. Every day I attend lectures and have practice.

I do well because I want to become a good specialist. At the end of the term I’ll take exams and I’ll try to pass them successfully. We have English classes 3 times a week. I think knowledge of English, German and French gives the students the possibility of studying the latest works of foreign specialists in various fields of life.

MY WORKING DAY

 

On week-days I usually get up at 7 o’clock. I make my bed, open the window and do my morning exercises. Then I go to the bathroom where I clean my teeth and wash myself. If I have enough time I take a cold and hot shower. It really wakes me up and makes my body feel well. After that I go back to my room where I dress myself and brush my hair. In 10 minutes I am ready for breakfast. It may be a cup of tea or coffee and a sandwich. I never eat cereal or corn flakes, and very seldom I eat scrambled eggs.

After breakfast I put on my coat, take the bag and go to school. As I live not far from school it takes me only five or seven minutes to get there. I don't want to be late for the first lesson so I come to school a few minutes before the bell. I leave my coat in the cloakroom and go upstairs to the classroom.

The lessons begin at eight o’clock in the morning and they are over at half past one in the afternoon. I have six lessons a day with short breaks between them. After classes I go home and have dinner there.

After dinner I have a short rest, read newspapers, make some telephone calls, go to the bakery. Then I do my homework. We study many subjects at school and it takes me three or even more hours to do the homework. Sometimes I go to the library to get ready for my practical classes or to write a report. As a rule I have very little free time on my week-days. But when I have some spare time I do some work about the house: do the shopping and the cleaning.
