Youth Exchange “PRACTICAL TOOLS FOR NONVIOLENT COMMUNITY ACTIONS VENUE OF THE Youth Exchange Kobuleti, Georgia DATES OF Youth Exchange Arrival: June 09, 2013 Departure: June 19, 2013 The target of the Youth Exchange: Youth workers and youth leaders About Youth Exchange ‘”East meets West; For the future of Europe” Many conflict lines exist in modern European societies which are subject to societal negotiation processes. Some of those conflicts hard dealt with forms of violence as the following examples illustrate: --‐ Ethnical tensions with physical violence against migrants and those with migration background in many Western European countries (e.g. right wing extremist killings of Turkish in Germany) --‐ Structural discrimination of immigrants in Western Europe with forms of ghettoization and unequal opportunities for education and employment --‐ Physical violence against sexual minorities in several mainly Eastern European countries alongside of manifestations for equal opportunities --‐ Structural discrimination of women on the labour market in all of Europe Additionally in Eastern Europe and the Caucasus territorial conflicts can be found resulting in ethnical tensions between the conflicting populations and in many cases in segregation from each other as the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict and the conflicts in Georgia (Abkhazia, South Ossetia) show. During the youth exchange the participants will have to time to analyse societal conflict and to reflect on grass-root activities that can be realised by young people to lower existing tensions and to approach these conflicts with peaceful means. Thus, an introduction to nonviolent conflict transformation, conflict analysis and conflict intervention will be combined with theatre techniques to foster self-confidence and empower young people to take actions for peace in their communities.
