Environmental protection
Many, many years ago a man lived in harmony with nature because industry was not much developed. Now we are living in the time of rapid scientific and technological progress. Today our planet is in serious danger. Acid rains, global warming, air and water pollution, overpopulation are the problems that threaten human lives on the Earth. So environmental protection has become one of the most actual problems in the whole world. Nowadays the most serious environmental problems are: - pollution in its many forms (water pollution, air pollution, land pollution); - noises from cars, buses, planes; - destructing wildlife and countryside beauty; - lack of water and electricity; - garbage; - destroying trees and plants. A) One of the tips for us to shorten air pollution is changing the way of travelling. Use bikes or electric cars or walk if it is possible. Another way of protecting our environment is using alternative natural energy resources: - Solar energy [ ΄sәulә] – сонячна енергія - Hydropower energy [ ΄haidrәpauә]- гідроелектроенергія - Geothermal energy [d3i:ә(u) ΄Өә:m(ә)l]– геотермічна енергія - Wind energy – енергія вітру - Biomass energy [ ΄baiә(u)mæs]– енергія біомаси - Radiant energy [΄reidiәnt] – промениста енергія Recycling is really good way to keep our planet cleaner, to save energy and natural resources. 1. Most types of plastic are recyclable. 2. Papers make up 40-50% of landfill space instead of being recycled. 3. Glass can be recycled or reused over and over again. 4. Old clothes can be reused as rags or for art projects. 5. Old wood can be reused, fixed and given away or used as fuel for fireplace. 6. Aluminum [ә΄lu:minәm] is easy to recycle and make into new things. 7. Tin can be recycled and quickly made into new things. 8. Trash: some things are not recyclable but they make up a small percentage of what is thrown away. After you sort your waste for recycling it’ll be very little to throw away. The greater part of your waste will be recycled. Mother Theresa said “If every person swept their own door-step, the whole world would be clean.” So everybody can do something for our planet. Clean up your home, around your home, around your school. You’ll see it is great! What can people do to save our planet? 1. People must reduce buying and making things which are difficult to recycle or reuse. 2. People must save electricity. 3. People can recycle boxes and plastic bottles. 4. People must plant more trees. 5. Factories must install new equipment that reduces pollution. 6. People can use rain water for washing cars and watering gardens. 7. People must not turn on music loudly. 8. People can use bicycles instead of cars. 9. People must make nuclear stations safer or use wind for producing electricity. 10. People must pick up litter after picnics.
