Ancient Greek Architecture
Greek architecture has influenced all architectural movements throughout the world. It can be divided into several periods, the most notable of which are the The Palace of Knossos The Minoan period prospered on the island of Crete and is the first known from an architectural point of view. The most famous achievement of this period is the impressive Palace and Residential complex of Knossos. Moreover, it is the best preserved one. The Mycenaean architecture is completely different from the Minoan. As the architecture of a city follows the need of the civilization, judging by the remains, the Mycenaean civilization had a tendency for war. They built compact citadels, orderly planned and fortified by huge walls. These walls took the name of “Cyclopean” for the reason that people thought that only Cyclopes could lift the stones that composed them. The Mycenae Palace was destroyed and the only remains you can find are walls and tombs.
