A Short History of the Field 1890-1920s: First Business Schools
• 1898 – a course on “ Commercial Ethics ” in Haas Business School at California University
• 1915 – a large retailer provided the grant to Haas Business School for research on the topic of “ Moral of Trade ”
• 1926 – one of the first books: The Ethics of Business: A Study of Current Standards by Edgar Heermance

A Short History of the Field Social changes in 1950s
• Main factor is the growth of large corporations and tremendous increase of their power. Some transnational corporations became financially larger than some states where they operated.
• Hazardous production (chemical, etc.)
• Growth of social activism (anti-consumerism, environmentalism, human rights etc.)
