Rewards & Joys
- The welcome of Servas Malawi at the first social meeting. People were friendly and happy to see me. - The hosts were always trying to help me. Picking me up and giving me lifts, making special food for me like rice and chicken. - They helped me if I needed something. - They hosted me at the last minute, as Bobbex + Willy did. - The beds were comfortable and warm – thankyou to whoever let me have their lovely beds or organised it. - Francis – thank you for letting me phone you and ask to come and get me – it was like my own private taxi company – you were great! Thanks. - I liked that I went with Chris and Hannah to their religious function because I saw where Frank was establishing mission to help local people improve their agriculture – trench building and compost creation. - I liked having a weekend with Willy and Kitty it was relaxing – no work to worry about – and I liked the party I went to and the trip to Mulanje – that was a beautiful thing to see and walk - thanks Willy. On Sunday evening Willy had a friend from Europe and they made grilled meat for us all – yum hmmmm! - Demelza for organizing it all while she was in the middle of her school reports – she as short tempered!!! Is she always like this?? Her daughter says ‘ yes a bit. ’ SUMMARY:It is the first time I have ever travelled in a 3rd World Area of the world – and I found it very important experience to me. I had never seen people before close-up, in reality, in front of my eyes – that have so very little materialistically speaking. They are living day to day. This really touched me and made me think I am very lucky to live in Europe, even if I am not at all rich by European standards. Some things were what I expected but many were not: the openness of the people, their generosity to share with me what they had, even when sometimes economy is hard and someone has to give up their bed but still smile at me. Zikomo Servas Malawi!
