Marketing Harmful Products Marketing of infant formula
Infant formula is used as a substitute for mother's breast milk when the mother is ill or for other reasons cannot provide enough milk for her infant. It is popular in wealthier countries because it is convenient, but extensive use of infant formula is harmful:
1) it does not contain the antibodies that an infant needs; 2) it requires water, which is not sanitary in many poor countries; 3) it is expensive and requires a large portion of a poor family's income.
After the saturation of the market in developed countries the producers of infant formula moved to developing countries and started massive advertising campaigns for this product. This causes a lot of problems with child health.
