EXPLANATORY NOTE The course “Sociology” is an obligatory course offered to students of all specialties studying at higher education institutions in the Republic of Kazakhstan. It offers foundational knowledge on Sociology, its subject, methods of inquiry as well as fundamental problems addressed by sociologists. As such it reflects contemporary academic achievements in this particular field of social sciences and based primarily on the principles of Sociology worked out by the leading British expert Anthony Giddens. The course is designed for full time students of all majors of the Turan International Business School (TIBS) who get discipline taught by instructor and work under supervision of an instructor. The syllabus describes main themes of lectures and seminars as well as the topics for individual self-organized students work. The syllabus also contains some samples of tests which can be used to assess knowledge of students, contains description of assessment format and gives a selected glossary of sociological terminology.
