Sport in our life

Sport is a special world of its own. All people are fond of various kinds of sport and like different sport games. Sport makes us feel fine, healthy, clever, more organized and better disciplined in our everyday life. So we may say that sport activities unite all people of different classes and nationalities and give them different chances and opportunities for their further physical, intellectual and creative development.

Many people go in for sports in childhood. They practice different kinds of sport: skiing, skating, table tennis, swimming, volleyball, football, body building, etc. All necessary facilities are provided for them: stadiums, sport grounds, swimming pools, skating rinks, skiing stations, football fields and so on.

Sport is paid great attention to in all educational establishments in our country. Gymnastics is a part of children’s daily activities in all kindergartens. Physical culture is a compulsory subject at schools and colleges. The physical exercises were introduced into Russian schools and colleges in the 1870. They served the interests of Russian Army. So-called disciplinary exercises were designed to produce a “disciplined subject” in peace time and to be a good example of preparation a fearless fighter in war time.

Professional sport is also paid much attention to now. There are many different sport societies, clubs and complexes. The most famous of them are the Olympic complexes. They are used for international matches and contests as well as for world competitions.

In old times the little athletes (children) were completely without clothes and a lot of oil and sand were rubbed into their bodies in the gymnasiums to avoid injuries. The tradition is still preserved now. Old gymnasiums may be compared with modern sport complexes. Now we have a lot of special sports centers which are very popular with different groups of people. There are a lot of special shops where you can easily buy special clothes for sports and tourism.
