Причастие в этой функции обычно стоит перед группой подле­жащего и переводится на русский язык придаточным обстоятельст­венным предложением или причастным оборотом.

 

Administered in heavy doses the drug may cause toxic effects.

 

Назначаемое в больших дозах лекарство может вызвать токсическое действие.

Или:

Если лекарство назначено в больших дозах, оно может вызвать токсическое действие.

 

Примечание 1. Перед причастием II в функции обстоятельства могут стоять союзы “when”, “if”, “unless”:

 

When asked, heanswered at once.

 

Когда его спросили, он тотчас ответил.

 

If made in time, a tracheotomy can save a patient's life.

 

Если трахеотомию сделать вовремя, она может спасти жизнь больного.
