Hamburgers in America
A hamburger is a kind of sandwich. It consists of one or more slices of ground meat. This slice is put between two slices of bread, or in a bun. After that, topping s (like tomatoes, onions, cheese, salad) and dips are added. A cheeseburger is a hamburger with cheese. A veggie burger is a hamburger-style patty that does not contain meat. The patty of a veggie burger may be made, for example, from vegetables, legumes, nuts, dairy products, mushrooms, soy, wheat, or eggs. Gourmet burgers are made from Aberdeen angus herd. 'Kiwiburgers', popular in New Zealand, are burgers which contain the ingredients such as beetroot, pineapple and a fried egg. In North America, burgers may be classified as two main types: fast food hamburgers and individually prepared burgers made in homes and restaurants. The two most common condiments are mustard, tomato ketchup and mayonnaise, other salad dressings, and barbecue sauce. Traditional "Texas" hamburgers and cheeseburgers usually omit other liquid condiments besides mustard. In Wisconsin burgers are often made with a buttered bun, butter as one of the ingredients of the patty or with a pat of butter on top of the burger patty. This is called a "Butter Burger." In the Carolinas a hamburger "with everything" may be served with cheese, chili, onions, mustard, and coleslaw. A hamburger served with lettuce, tomato, and onion is called a "California burger."
