Customs and Traditions in Ukraine
Ukraine is rich in its traditions and customs. Ukrainians are a hospitable nation. Ukrainians are well known for their hospitality. One of the oldest traditions is to meet guests with bread and salt on the embroidered towel, saying: “Welcome!” It became a tradition in Ukraine to meet guests with bread and salt on the embroidered towel nowadays. Ukrainians are also hard-working, friendly, talkative and easy-going. Ukrainians are known for their dancing and singing abilities. Ukrainian traditional meals are: borsch, lard (salo) and varenyky. Ukrainian national clothes are white blouses and shirts with embroidery, red high boots for women and black high boots for men. The bandura is called Ukrainian national instrument. Snow-ball tree is Ukrainian plant-symbol. The berries of this tree are red and they symbolize blood and immortality. Ukrainian flag consists of two horizontal stripes: blue and yellow. They represent the peaceful blue sky and yellow ripened wheat, as the symbol of welfare of our nation. The national emblem of Ukraine is a gold trident. Ukrainian national anthem is “Ukraine is still alive. ”
