Read the text. Ukraine is an independent state. It is the second largest country of Europe. Its area is 603.7 (six hundred and three point seven) thousand square kilometers. Ukraine borders on Poland, Slovakia and Hungary in the west, Romania and Moldova in the south-west, Belarus in the north, and Russia in the east. There are over 400 cities and 900 towns in Ukraine. The largest city is the capital of Ukraine, Kyiv. Other big cities are Kharkiv, Odesa, Zaporizhia, Donetsk and others.The population of Ukraine is about 46 million people. 73% (per cent) are Ukrainians, 22% are Russian, 1% is Jewish and 4% - other nations and nationalities.The form of government in Ukraine is Republic. The legislative body is the Supreme Council. The head of the state is the President, who is elected every 5 years. The official language is Ukrainian. The national currency is hryvnia. The national symbols are: 1) the national coat-of-arms (the golden trident on a blue field); 2) the yellow-and-blue flag; 3) the national anthem (“Ukraine Lives On”), created by the composer Mykhailo Verbytskyi and the poet Pavlo Chubynskyi.
